Because nitrosamines can be created, everyone knows from the grill party: when fat drops on the coals. Many tests have indicated that nitrosamines can occur due to uncleaned raw materials in cosmetics, and that they can be created during storage. Nitrosamines are clearly cancer-causing. Because two materials must meet with one another in order to form nitrosamine, all cosmetic ingredients should be avoided in which there is a danger of nitrosamine build-up. Already due to this, for example, halogenated materials are avoided as preservatives as a way to ensure further consumer safety.

Especially toxic are the nitrosamines which are shown as strong carcinogens (cancer-causing agents). They can develop nitrites and organic combinations in the stomach from food. They can however be caused by uncleaned raw materials in cosmetics. A danger for the build-up of nitrosamines is presented by cosmetics above all from the halogen-organic combinations as preservatives, but also the azo dyes and the amine combinations on the basis of DEA, MEA and MIPA.

Amines are organic connections which always act as bases such as alkali. They can create the gas nitrosamine in combination with nitrogen/oxygen combinations. Nitrosamines are highly cancerogenic.
