Cholesterol is released and adds esters as well in the sebum, it makes it able to absorb water, and it works as a source regulator and protective substance. Skin crèmes with cholesterol are similar to skin fat both chemically and physically, are well-tolerated and make the epidermis soft and smooth. Cholesterol in crèmes and salves, especially in compensating for a lower level of lecithin, increases its ability to take on water and stabilizes the formulation with liposomes.
