Studies, literature and statements
Bundesgesundheitsblatt
Sun protection products are not only used for protection from sunburns, but also expected to help with protection from long-term damage. From this, UV-A filters have gained greater currency. Up to recently, the choices of these filters was quite limited. In the year 2000, this situation improved. MBBT (methylene bis-bentzatriozolyl tetramethylbutylphenol), BEMT (bis-ethylhexyloxyphonol methoxyphenyl triazene) and DPBT (disodium phenyl dibenzimidazole tetrasulphonate), three new, photostable UV-A's and broad-band filters were taken onto the positive list of cosmetic UV filters. In order to demonstrate UV-A protection in Europe, many in-vivo and in-vitro methods are under discussion. The use of the most common relative in-vitro methods shows that the highest value for the 'critical wavelengths' is significantly simpler to achieve than with the 'UVA/UVB relationship'. Due to the norm developed in Japan for the in-vivo methods, PPD (persistent pigment darkening), the different photo sensitivities of conventional, photo-labile UVA filter BMDBM (butyl methoxydibenzoyl methane) can be demonstrated impressively in comparison to the modern photo-stable UVA filter MBBT. The new photo -- stable UVA/broadband filters are discussed, where the first commercial user examples can be considered.
Wikipedia
Avonbenzone (trade names Parson 1789, Eusolex 9020, Escalol 517 and others, INCI Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane) is an oil soluble ingredient used in sunscreen products that absorb the full spectrum of UVA rays. It is a dibenzoylmethane derivative. Avobenzone's basic state is a mixture of enol and keto forms, from which chelate enol [...] [1] It has the ability to absorb a greater range of wavelengths of UV light than many organic sunscreens that are often marketed as “broad spectrum” sunscreens. Avobenzone has an absorption maximum of 357 nm. [2

The European Commission (Scientific Committee on Cosmetic Products and Non-Food Products intended for Consumers (SCCNFP)) carried out a safety assessment of bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine. On the basis of its review, the SCCNFP concluded that the use of this ingredient in cosmetic products as a UV absorber at a maximum concentration of 10% is considered safe for human health.
Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine is a heterocyclic compound In cosmetic and personal care products, ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine acts as a UV absorber. UV absorbers, like sunscreens, have the ability to convert UV radiation into less harmful infrared radiation (heat).
