The word 'betaine' is derived as a substance from sugar beets. Betain is tolerated by the skin and mucous membranes, builds stable foam and is biologically degradable. It possesses a good cleaning capability and it weakens the irritating activities of anionic surfactants. Due to mucous membranes' good tolerance, it does not burn in the eyes and is appropriate for baby shampoos and bath.
